Typical errors in the training and examples
of the correct training techniques

You can find examples of the correct training in corresponding fragments of video training course on your CD.

Typical mistakes of the training.

1. During the “warming-up” stage of training– work with the headphones

·       Speech tempo is not slowed down

Reason: the patient is using the bone channel of conductivity. He is psychologically blocking the perception of the speech through the headphones. The patient feels that the headphones disturb his speaking.

Solution:

·  Slow down the tempo of the speech and let the tempo given by the headphones lead you,

·  Bring the microphone maximally close to the lips. It should be done to increase the air channel of the feedback (through the headphones) and weaken the bone channel by decreasing the loudness of the voice.

The indicators of the correct training are:

·  Raising the speech tone at the word endings – indicator of shifting the speech perception from bone channel to the air channel,

·  The absence of additional inhale inside the long words.

·       Syllabicating of words

Reason: the patient is using the bone channel of conductivity, though psychologically cannot block the perception of the speech through the headphones.

Solution:

·  To pronounce words and phrases in continuous-flow and slowly as it is shown in the video training course.

2. During the main stage the training is performed only with the microphone w/o the headphones

a) the required high formant value is reached only at the loud voice.

Reason: the patient has not re-built the spectrum of the voice and tries to reach the goal in evasive way.

Solution:

·   Lower the loudness of the voice, trying to keep the previous values of the high formant.

At the same time make sure that the in over 50% of cases the high formant at the moment of speech is higher than the purple line.

b) the value of the high formant is reached by the increase of the basic tone. At this moment the peak is moving to the right from the resonator line.

Solution:

·  Hold the peak on appropriate resonator. The beginning of the phrase should be pronounced carefully. It’s a good sign when the phrase starts more to the left of the resonator. It shows that the vocal chords are relaxed and the spasm of the larynx is eliminated.
