Three "secrets" of correct speech. 


For certain you know, that however hard the person stutters, when he sings – he never stutters. Many logopedists recommend to sing more, but, as a rule, these skills  are not for everyday situations. For the majority of  people, suffering from logoneurosis,  it’s much easier to talk with raised voice or to argue with close people, than to communicate at natural loudness of the voice. What is the point of it? 

It appears, the way we sing and  shout a little differs from the way  we talk - we do it with use of so-called "chest resonators”. Formation of  sound in the chest contributes to its  greater colour and expressiveness. In fact, not without reason, the most  splendid sound is created by means of organ pipes. The sound, generated in a thorax, also passes through the respiratory tube -  trachea and larynx, improving its qualitative characteristics. All rich voices of announcers – are always throaty voices. In old novels, describing the beautiful woman, the author did not forget to note: “she had a rich throaty voice”.  

Unfortunately, the majority of stuttering people cannot boast of the outstanding, expressive voice -   almost all of them speak anatomically with "lips", forming a point of speech production  immediately at final sections of the speech organs. "Born" on lips, speech has not time to obtain necessary force and colour.  Formation of the throaty  sound allows to relieve the stress of  the speech organs during the moment of speech since in this case it already doesn’t play  “the first fiddle”, and only promotes processing of an exhaled sound. 

To understand a place of the chest sounding  You should  put your  hand on a breastbone and   sing the letter "E"  with a slightly lowered voice – a production sound. Thus under the palm  You can feel the vibration, specifying a place of the correct arrangement of a sound. Ideally it is necessary to achieve such constant   sensation during speech. 

Speech of the person, suffering from stuttering,  is difficult to call  confident, expressive and convincing, and these qualities, as we already observed, are reflected by the parameter of high formant. Hence, in order to increase it, it is necessary "to cultivate" these qualities in the speech until  they are  fixed up automatically. The confident, expressive and convincing voice promotes formation of the firm, confident character, so necessary for overcoming of the speech behaviour  fear. That  is the second "secret". 

And finally. The voice should get a special timbre colour. We  recommend  the men to develop or strengthen metal, command nuances in a voice, and  women - sonority, silverness, or "throaty" hearfulness. 

Having solved all these three tasks, it is possible easily at natural loudness of the voice (i.e. without shout) to overcome 30 %-rubicon of  high formant. By means of schedules on the display the visual verification of speech is carried out, in particular its overtones and psychological characteristics. Displacement of the speech spectrum into the high-frequency field will make impossible the occurrence of low-frequency overtones, which  reduces spastic readiness, and, finally, normalizes speech.

Recently one of the patients with undisguised surprise has told a story about his familiar actor of theatre who, despite of appreciable stuttering in everyday situations, can play, nevertheless, even leading parts during  several hours, not stammering at all!  The answer is rather simple. Being on the stage, the actor speaks loudly and expressively, trying to convince spectators in  reality of his character. At the moment of performance on the stage the value of  high formant  in the actor’s voice much more over  30 %. For this reason he can speak easily  and  for a long time, but, unfortunately, in real life the actor speaks with his usual voice, without pathos. He cannot speak with a voice, for example, of Chatsky, in all everyday situations!  And under natural loudness of  voice his corresponding skills are not worked through.  

High formant  we  call not without good reason a “voice magic” ,since the presence of these high-frequency shades in speech of some people causes involuntary attention to them of their associates. Remember, with what delight we listen to lectures and performances of  a certain kind of  orators, and we are frankly bored and even  fall asleep, when a voice of the  lecturer  is colorless and monotonous. 

We advise our patients  not to feel shy of the new quality of speech, skill to speak in 2-3 times better, than the majority of the surrounding people. Let they  pay attention to You and somewhere even exclaim with admiration:  “how  good he speaks, what interesting voice!”. It is all the same better, than to catch sympathizing humiliating eyes on You. The choice is up to You! 

As you can see, there is nothing supernatural, magic, “beyond” in the present development of RC for Biocybernetics. It  is based on physiological laws. The task of the patient is  to master the skill of correct speech and  fix the obtained skills before the formation of a habit.  

And the habit is a habit, and You can’t   speak the other  way (as usual) any more!!!
